WELCOME TO OUR FAQ PAGE
Actually, there are a couple of ways to sign up for tournaments.
A Tournament Email Blast is sent out to all club members prior to tournament. Once received you can click and follow the links to get to the registration page for the upcoming tournament...or you can simply make your way to the RRMGC website and register there. Once registered you’ll receive email confirmation that you’re in.
If the tournament is team play and you are a single, the Tournament Director will attempt to pair you with another single or team if possible. Note: Occasionally there are no other singles, or there are an odd number of singles which may preclude pairing. But give it a shot!
Two to three days before tournament the Tournament Director will send out an email with pairings and tee times. This will also be posted in the RRMGC site in case you do not receive the email. (Darn junk mail!)
If for some reason you cannot make it to the tournament it is important that you notify the tournament director ASAP, otherwise you will be charged the green fees assessed by the course against the club.
The morning of the tournament - Arrive at least 45 minutes before your tee time, especially if you are one of the last groups out (our Check-in volunteers have a tee time to make as well).
On arrival…
First, check-in with tournament directors and pay your entry fee by check, cash or even script won on any previous tournaments is accepted (no credit cards, Venmo, Zelle, etc and no ATM on site). Entry fee covers greens fees and tournament prize funds. You will also be given your tournament scorecard at that time. Scores must be submitted on this unless otherwise approved by the tournament director for extenuating circumstances.
Next…determine if you will be entering skins competition. If so, ask the check-in directors how you can enter (envelopes and the drop slot are in the foyer just outside the Pro Shop). Entry must be made before your tee off. Side games participation is purely voluntary and with cash only (also paid out by cash only).
Once the above laborious tasks are taken care of and if you plan on renting a cart, that will be a separate fee and handled in the pro shop.
After check-in, make sure to familiarize yourself with the format and rules of the particular competition. For instance, scrambles and shambles generally have a minimum number of drives required for each partner.
Tee Time! Exchange Scorecards with your competitor and enjoy your round!
Once the round is complete scorecards MUST be attested (fancy word for signed) by both Marker and Player and then turned in to the tournament director collecting scorecards (generally, in the café note, we did not say bar!).
Important: Make sure to check/verify scores carefully as once turned in they cannot be changed.
The tournament directors will automatically post your scores in GHIN for all postable rounds.
That’s it! Scores will be entered and results sent out and posted on the website within a day or two.
Note: Tournament winners are paid in script. Script can be used for future RRMGC tournaments or converted to an American Golf gift card. Skins and closes will be paid out by cash only. All are available at the table during check-in at future tournaments.
Yes...Just kidding!
You can sign up for whichever tournaments you choose. What makes River Ridge Men's Golf Club unique is that we generally hold two tournaments a month on two different courses, unlike most clubs that play once a month and only on a single course.
Generally, entries close 1 week prior to the tournament date. Depending on the tournament, it could fill up before the deadline, or on the day of the deadline. Bottom line...better to sign up sooner than later!
A plethora of choices!
Currently, members can use their scrip winnings in the following ways.
You may use all or a portion of a scrip certificate to pay for your tournament entry fee.
You can contact our scrip managers and convert any full scrip certificate(s) into a Dicks Sporting Goods or American Golf (AG) gift card.
An American Golf (AG) gift card can be used for;
Cart fee
Pro shop merchandise
Any food or drink item in the cafe
Non-men’s club green fees
See Darryl Gordon or Otto Kanny to convert your unused scrip.
Certainly!
RRMGC holds several member guest tournaments each year. In these, the registration price is discounted for members bringing a guest. You can also bring a guest to tournaments the rest of the year. The only caveats are that a guest can only play in 3 tournaments per year and must have an active GHIN number.
By default, our clubs play White tees. There is a Gold Tee option for qualifying players whose handicap index and age total 85 or more. These players can choose to play either Gold or White in most tournament formats. Their handicaps are adjusted according to the tees chosen. Additionally, there are several tournament formats that play from tees other than the White. The Red, White and Blue and Gold White Combo tournaments are a few examples.
See the Gold Tee Option in the FAQ for more information.
No. We have members form all over Southern California. While other courses experience high heat in the summer months (90’s and even 100’s), River Ridge’s ocean proximity keeps the temperature at a mild Mediterranean climate averaging in the 70’s.
Multi-Member Rebate
Good news! The SCGA offers a rebate program for golfers who are members of more than one SCGA club. For each membership year, anyone who is a member of the SCGA through more than one club is eligible to apply for and receive a rebate directly from the SCGA for any dues they pay the SCGA that exceed $55.
. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Members must be a multi-member for at least 60 days at 2 or more clubs in a 12-month cycle in order to be eligible for the rebate and must be active at all clubs when submitting the application. Please allow up to 4 weeks for processing once you've met your eligibility requirements. Rebates are based on an annual membership cycle and members must reapply for the rebate each year.
Great question!
To become a full member, you will need to submit an additional $40 (to be prorated at the time you become a full member). You can contact the Director of Membership and Handicaps listed at the link below.
Contact the tournament director. There is a 90% chance you totaled your scorecard incorrectly. Also, posted scores are adjusted for ESC before posting to SCGA.
