Want to play more often?
This coming Sunday is the last Sunday of the month, that means there will be a Big Skins game. Each Sunday, except for tournament Sundays, the Sunday Boys have reserved tee times for a regular skins game. All are welcome. Contact the River Ridge Pro Shop and let them know you want to play with the Sunday Boys.

2012 River Ridge Men's Golf Club Scholarship
Do you know a local high school senior golfer? Did you know that our men's club has provided a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving high school senior golfer to help pay for college for the last two years? This year, we will do it again. The golf course will match the amount for a total of $2,000. Eligible students must be from Oxnard Unified School District. Click this LINK for the 2012 scholarship application.

River Ridge Super Bowl Tournament
Click this LINK for information about the River Ridge Super Bowl tournament. The tournament will be contested on Super Bowl Sunday, February 5th. Don't worry, you will be home in plenty of time for the game.

Happy Holidays
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we wish you a happy holiday season and a great New Year.

2011 has been a year of challenges and successes. We welcomed new Club Champions in Simon Kiddle (Gross) and Reid Burns (Net), the President Cup saw Mogie Maruquin (A) and Kim Kerwin (B) claim victory in their respective flights, and Dave Clement and Bret Mackay represented us in the SCGA Fourball Net Championship. And John Rocke is the 2011 Money Leader after finishing second in 2010, more than 160 players made the money list out of approximately 200 players and more than 1,000 rounds of tournament play. 2011 was also a year of rainouts and extremely blustery weather; unanticipated resignations of the Mike’s (Walker and Melamed) from the Board required mid-season adjustments.

I encourage you to invite your golfing friends and family to join us for the 2012 season. A gift membership to the Men’s club is an excellent way to get your son or father or buddy into the camaraderie of the best club in Ventura County. You can download an application at our website www.rrrmc.org, and don’t forget to renew your membership prior to December 30, 2011, so your SCGA membership remains in effect for 2012 and the January 7, 2012, tournament, and you can play in one or more of the SCGA events in 2012.

As we go forward into 2012, you will see changes in the Board members and their roles. We welcome Ed Marroquin and Bruce Shinden to the Board in the roles of Assistant Sunday Tournament Director and Webmaster, respectively. Erland Gulbrand will become Vice President, Scott Berry will become the Sunday Tournament Director, the other roles are on the website. The Board says a reluctant goodbye to Frank Victor, who has served in a variety of capacities, including, Treasurer, Webmaster, and most recently as Vice President. It is all Frank’s fault that I got into this mess some 20 years ago as he introduced me to the golf drug. So if I took any money blame it on Frank, if you made a buck off of me (more likely) buy him a diet Pepsi. Frank, thanks for your service to the club and the golf course, we look forward to seeing you on the course for years to come.

To all of you, it is my fondest hope your 2012 is fairways and greens; and the long bomb to save par.

Time to renew for 2012
October is suddenly upon us and begins the membership application kickoff for the 2012 golf season. I will be accepting your application for 2012 effective October 1st. You can find a 2012 application by clicking on the “membership” button at the top of this website. Please note that in order to remain on the River Ridge Men’s Golf Club roster, I must receive your application on or before December 30th, 2011. Any member who has not sent in an application by that date will be removed from our roster (no exceptions).

Our board has scheduled many great golf events for next year and welcome you to participate. The tournament schedule will be posted on this web site in the near future. Typically we have two tournaments a month which will usually fall on the first Saturday and the third Sunday of each month. We also have a “Big Skins” event on the last Sunday of each month unless a conflict of tournament scheduling occurs. Additionally we have reserved tee times each Sunday morning (non tournament days) for a friendly “skins” game, known as the “Sunday Boys”. If that is not enough golf for you, we also have a few “away” tournaments, which are typically two day, best ball events, that will be announced on the web site. Please remember to post all of your scores (good or bad).

The Board and I look forward to your participation in both our club and events and hope you enjoy the great golf at River Ridge.
